Why Does My Fridge Freeze Up?

After buying a Hotpoint Iced Diamond second hand fridge, I have discovered that after a week or so the fridge seems too cold, even on the lowest setting, and in operation the back plate semi-ices up, then is covered in droplets, and cycles through this routine over and over for about 20-30 mins. This seems far too frequent, is it that the fridge temperature control is faulty or the auto defrost function is not working properly.

There should be a damper control knob move it towards the middle and see if that makes it better. Then tweak it from there. Post your model number to any of these fine forums for

I am guessing you have an ice cube maker. If it is not level, it can run out water which runs over the cooling coils and builds up more ice than the defrost cycle timer can eliminate even if it is working properly. Check for level and check that the water entering the ice system is properly aligned, and entering the tray instead of spilling down the back.



The defrost timer may be hung up. It's usually located behind the kick plate at the bottom front. Give it a quarter turn and see if it starts acting normally over time.

Does it have an ice maker??? Mine was freezing up and someone had pushed the flapper up from the outside and all the freezer air was entering the fridge. A tech came out and pushed the flapper down and did my face turn red!!!

large mass ice is formed outside the freezer area where sodas, fruits and other food products are stored which very weird. why does it happen, is something wrong with my refrigerator ?
