No don t caulk around the base until your sure there is no leak. A couple of things to try. You may need 2 wax rings or a flange extension. Local hardware s can help you there. A basic rule of thumb.. If your flange on the floor is flush (with in a 1/4 inch )your ok w/ 1 wax ring. If it s below the floor surface I use 2 or a extension. I always get the rings w/ a sleeve. And I get the thicker rings, any extra will help seal it better I think this helps. Make sure flange is clean of old wax and the bottom of the stool is clean of all debris too. Have a 2 nd person help you line up the bolts as your setting it straight down a top the rings. Getting it off center and sliding it over can miss align the rings( Personal experience talking now lol) GL

When replacing the next ring. Double the rings up. Use 1 wax ring with flange and 1 regular wax ring. I had this problem before, and it did the trick. A plumber told me to try it.

you are probably installing it incorrectly, the mounting surface isn't completely cleaned of old wax, or the was seals are defective. i'm thinking it's one of the first 2 reasons.

this problem is usually caused due to over tightening the the toilet down unevenly, or too tight. Also check with a level, before putting the toilet back on the seal that the floor is level, as well as the pipe flange. The flange needs to be level. If any of these or uneven the wax seal will not seat properly when you tighten down the toilet. IF the floor is uneven around the toilet use shims to level the toilet then tighten the toilet down to just a snug fit. Hope this helps solve your problem
