bathtub faucet problem?

I have a one handled Mixet faucet.

The one I have is the top one.

It is leaking at the handle. Thus I assume it needs to be replaced. But does the handle need to be replaced or do I need to replace the cartridge behind it?

If so can this be done easily?
The handle sticks out about 2-3 inches from the wall and a silver piece goes into the wall.
Someone told me that the wall needs to be taken out.
This true? Thanks for the help

The best way to repair a mixet valve is to pull it out and toss it in the trash. To replace the cartridge you do not have to remove the wall. It's easy to replace the cartridge, but I hate mixet as do most plumbers. Remove the handle and temp lever. Remove the faceplate, then unscrew the nut/sleeve, and pull out the stem/replace and hope it works. Did I mention I hate mixet? Put a Delta in. The repair parts are $3.00 and it's fool proof, but you would have to cut a 1'x1' hole behind it. I replace single handle valves through the hole behind the faceplate, but I would not advise this without years of experience and a million $ general liability ins policy.

Call an established appliance repair company which also does plumbing. (I called Crown Services at 777-7777). Be careful and do this now instead of putting it off because the leak could also be leaking behind the tub and causing the sheet rock to buckle and perhaps mold. There is stuff going on behind the faucet which can be very damaging to your walls.



Call and get a professional person to fix this for you asap unless you really know what you are doing.

yes and no.. if the plumbing is messed up then yes the wall may need to broken to fix the problem



your faucet just may need to be tightened



if it is the problem and u want to replace it you don't need to break the wall.. just unscrew it as per the directions



since it is leaking at the handle my guess is that you just need to tighten it up a bit

piece of cake just remove the cartridge and replace it with a new one but only after you turn the main water valve off

Go to home depot or Lowes. Take the part with you show it to their customer service people. They usually very helpfull and will give you instructions.

Get rid of the mixet, and put in a delta, moen, price phister, kohler, american standard anything but mixet

u can change the cartidge but depending on how old it may to much problem removing/ install new one is offten best
