We can't locate our water well?

My husband and I cannot locate the well on our property. None of the papers that came with the house show the information. We have looked through public records to see if there is anything available to help us locate it and nothing is available. We have used a special tool (like a metal detector) and it gave us a location to dig. We dug. Many feet and have no even ran into a pipe. We follow the pipes from the basement out to the yard, directly outside of where the pipes would be (water lines) and have dug many feet deep. Still we have found nothing. Please, if anyone can help us with advice we would appreciate it. Thank you!

Just hire a plumber with a locating wand and it will find where your main pipe goes unless your pipe is polly with no tracer wire. Where your water line enters the house it can be misguided because just like water the plumber takes the easiest path for a example it may appear that the water line comes in from one direction but because there was a easier way the plumber used a different direction like a ditch already excavated for the power or sewer etc. Sounds like if it is a well ? its been a very good well with no problems for many years which company s hate to have happen because of $. If I was to guess since i have no information about the problem I would guess your well is there somewhere on your property hiding under the dirt/junk/trees/tires because if you had a shared well your neighbor would be bothering you for $$. Look at your electric panel see if there is a breaker that says wellpump if so call a locator to find where the wire goes to, if not.. your on city water tapped in illegally :)

are you sure you have your own well? if you have a well it would be located

on your property plot map at the county recorders office. ask a neighbor if they

know if you have a well. you might not have your own well you could be sharing a well that's on another property. is there a water meter on your property? if you have a meter you don't have a well, your on a municipal water system. if any neighbors have been there a long time, they might know where a well is. if you see a well in a nextdoor property your well might be in a same location on your property. if you have a septic system a well will probably be on the opposite end of your property.

A well on your property will have an access cover as well as electrical box at the location.

The well itself may be covered, but pumps need servicing by lifting them from the well.(submersibles)

More often than not, there is a reservoir tank at the pump site and could either be above ground or submersible pump.

Our well was adjacent to the house with a 7 HP above ground pump and 50 gallon tank.

Unless your well is over 100 years old, it will be recorded at county offices.

Your well may not be located on your property You could be sharing a well with others more then likely it's located

on someone else's property . it could be that the pipes to your well were removed for whatever reason by the previous owners. check the property plans that comes with the deeds.

Check ALL 'out buildings'...chances are there is one with a water pump in it. The building is not very big, however, it is within 3 feet of the well.

Take 2 metal cloth hangers. Form them into a L hold one in each hand loose. cross them at the tip. Just a little. Walk the property. Were they form a X there is your well or septic tank. Or a deep spring of water.

If you dug immediately outside of where the water line enters the home, and can't find the line, it is FAR past time you hire a professional.

Sometimes a house is built on a spring. The well could be under the house. But usually there is a well house with a electrical pump and pressure tank.

Go to the town hall and look at the surveyors plat for your lot. It's supposed to be on there.

This seems so simple. Dig it up where the water pipe enters the basement. Keep digging and follow it. Unless the beaement wall was built over the well, (encasing it) and that seems highly unlikely.

You know for sure that there's a well? Not all properties have wells.

Follow the inlet pipe, it must at some point come out of the well.

What gave you the idea there was ever one there? Not everyone has a well.
