Universal 2 cycle oil?

How is it that a 2.6 ounce bottle of 2 cycle oil can say it is good for 10, 16, 20, 32 and 50 to 1 ratios when mixed with one gallon of gasoline. I have a bottle of a pro mix formula that claims to do this. My gas trimmer requires a 32:1 ratio...add 4oz to one gallon. I went with the manual and added the 4 oz to one gallon of gas. Any ideas???

you did the right thing in my book. dont understand how they think it is universal when your ratio is 32 to 1 you need 32 parts gas with 1 part oil. you cant get that with 2.6 ounces. maybe next time go with manufacture recommended oil as well.

I've been using the Pro Mix 2.6-oz ProMix 2-Cycle Oil for years because they claim it is good for such a variety of ratios. I've never had a problem, and it saves me from having a gas can for each different engine I have. I find this stuff at Lowes.

During my years of small engine repairs there were things learned that not even customers would understand about this saying> The Man with experience will get the money and the Man with the money will learn experience.

If you mix 8oz of 2 cyl oil in to one gallon of gas you will never go wrong.

2cyl engines need oil especially when they are running hot from prolong use and where else can it get oil, but in the gas and so that is why the more oil you got the better.

do NOT just mix some random heavy oil mixture and dump it into your 2 cycle engine, too heavy of a mixture can cause more problems than not enough. (clogged mufflers and spark arrestors, coating the sides of the piston and scoring the piston and cylinder, just to name a few) so when in question, refer to the owners manual.

I suspect that it is good enough that it won't ruin the engine so quickly that you would blame the oil, but not ideal for longevity of the engine.

just add 4 oz to 1 gal of gasoline. that is pretty standard. you are thinking to much into it all'

There's something wrong here. Just follow your manual.
