I was looking at these two stoves. They are exactly the same but the nat gas costs 100 dollars more. Why does it cost most but appears to be the same stove?

Natural gas or propane stoves for that matter are much more energy efficient than electric and perfectly safe. Most stoves are shipped as NG units and have to be converted to operate on propane. Most of the time, there is a "button" on top of the appliance regulator under the stovetop that you flip over. This changes the appliance inlet pressure from 14"wc to 11"wc for propane. Then it is just a matter of adjusting the pilots and burners until the flame is a nice blue colour and you are done! In certain circumstances orifices or gas valves must be replaced, but most do not. I suspect they are trying to charge you for a conversion kit on top of the price of the stove.

The difference is the size of the orifice. I've never changed it myself but I don't think it could be too difficult, however I've always had a professional do it for me. The reason for this is that propane and natural gas (methane) have very different Btu contents. Propane has a much higher Btu content and the orifice for propane is smaller. There is also a small difference in pressures of the supplied gas as pointed out below, but it is small. If you hook up propane while having the natural gas orfice installed, you may experience problems with incomplete combustion (soot) and the appliance getting hotter than design due to too many Btu's. LNG (Liquid Natural Gas) is a cryogenic form of methane. It is generally stored at -250 deg F. It is not used for domestic fuel.

propane and natural gas are the same and cost about the same. Be smart and get away from any gas, it"s very dangerous and very expensive. It is not used in modern homes any longer, electric is used. You can get a used electric stove for about 75.00 at any used appliance shop. check your home for a 220amp outlet. If you don:t have one, you:ll have to have one installed. Electric stoves only operate on 220amps.
