Question:
Valve broken in shower?
2007-12-12 20:07:50 UTC
In my shower, the knob no longer stops at the correct place.
I think something is wrong with the pressure valve and the stopper inside doesn't stop it in the right place.
I have the Delta Classic pressure balanced valve shown here:

Usually turning all the way to the left turned the water off, now it goes past off and comes back on. Turning all the way to the right does nothing special. Also, it is very difficult to find the proper temperature now. It starts out very hot and takes forever to adjust down in small increments. It took over 10 minutes to get the correct temperature tonight.

Does anybody have any ideas what is wrong?

Go to the Delta website and look up how to adjust the valve. You may have to replace the inner piece, or just take it off and redo it. Check it, it is in the website on how to adjust it. If not go to the local Home Deport or Plumbing store and the guys there will tell you how to adjust it, and sell you the parts, they are cheap. You have to reset the stops.

sounds like the stop guard has broken. Best thing to do is to turn off the water and pull the shower valve out, clean it or replace it and reinsert it back by the book. It may just have mineral deposits on it or it could have a worn or broken part inside.

The cartridge is stripped. remove it and replace with a new one. while you have that out, might as well change the springs and gaskets. take the cartridge to a hardware store and they should have everything you need.
