Next-door neighbor's central air compressor is making too much noise and is driving us crazy. Suggestions?

We have asked her to have it looked at, but she has not. What options are out there?

Legally, there is nothing you can do unless they are creating a noise level above the maximum decibels allowed by law. Since you have already confronted them, the good neighbor option is no longer valid. If it's that noisy now, I'm certain it could go out at any moment for any mysterious reason.Hmmm

Some older model compressors can be quite noisy. As the others have said, maybe she doesn't have the money for the service call. You could also remind her that if it needs a tune up it will help her save money on her electricity bill, which will also help put less emissions into the environment.

Build a sound shield such as a fence or cheaper put a wall around the unit to bounce the sound waves upward;

the best thing to do is go tell them about it in a soft voice...Or you could go turn the disconnect off beside it and if they don't know anything about it then they will call a service man out to fix it...or ask them if you could look at it to see if it needs leveled up...sometimes when it is out of balance it will be loader...and if it is a carrier you are hurting...

If it's noisier than it use to be, it's on it's way out anyway be a little patient. If it's always been noisey you'r stuck.
