what's making my bathroom smell?

My landlord is not very proactive and I was hoping some of you out there could help me get to the bottom of this smell. My bathroom randomly emanates the smell of stale urine I think through the drains, often after using the shower but also for no apparent reason. I've cleaned the toilet, sink and shower drain with draino a couple of times and manually cleaned the drains but the smell is still happening. your thoughts? thanks,

Is your floor tile ? Urine can splash on floor and soak porous grout causing the old urine smell ...

Also if the flooring isnt complete ...ie curling vinyl tiles and the wood underlayment gets urine in it ...it will smell like a Subway station ....

Only cure is to rip up floor and re-install ...you'll never get rid of the stench ....

You may have a bad wax seal on your toilet.Sounds like you need to trick landlord into fixing it .I would loosen both bolts near floor and rock toilet side to side ..This will break the seal for sure then leave bolts loose and report it to land lord..this is a 10 min fix for a experienced person.However be prepared, it sounds like it may take 2-3 days for your landlord to fix it.. that is the only reason i suggest this method and approach.or you can try to convince him this is the problem..approach it the way you want..this said wax ring (your fix)costs 3.50$ and takes 10 min..

Just a thought when you take a shower the water is not getting behind the mastic that seals the shower tray is it,if its getting old it could be letting water get behind the shower tray.But of course i could well be wrong

Check the walls ? if theres any holes, the smell might be comming from behind the walls from the pipes maybe..
