Question:
My cat locked himself in the bathroom. How do I get him out?

Unfortunately, after looking it up, I can't find a single method to open the bathroom door from the outside that's compatible with my door. There's not a single hole, keyhole or screw on the outside, and the hinges of the door are on the inside of the bathroom.
He managed to lock himself in by pushing a button on the side of the doorknob that locks it, and it only unlocks once the door is opened.

Kick it down or get a knife and break the lock

Get a sledge hammer and demolish the door. You should be able to do this with minimal damage to the frame. If it is a cheap wood laminated hollow door you can kick it down.

Tell the cat you have good outside of the restroom. It is FAR more likely the cat can open the bathroom door than that it can lock it.

Since cats can't open doors with doorknobs, I'm assuming that the door was open when he went into the bathroom and he accidentally shut it (maybe by rubbing against it). Then, he panicked when he couldn't get out, tried to jump up on it, and locked it by accident (unless you locked him in there yourself?).

If there's a window, go through the window (and if this bathroom is on a third floor or something... You're going to need a tall ladder).

No window? You're going to have to break the doorknob or call... I don't know, the fire station or police? Maybe the people who made the door/lock?

Follow the methods described here.

1 break down the door and rescue him,

2 get a firefighter to come in and rescue him

3 manage to get the window open so he can come out it

4 saw a doggy hole in the door and get him out

I have never seen an interior door that locks that didn't have a small hole in the middle of the door knob for unlocking the door. You should be able to insert a small wire and trip the lock.

Some require a special key such as you will see at the link below.

Wow you've trained your cat well, using the bathroom. Ours still uses a litter tray.

Get a credit card and slide it in where the lock is. That should push it back to open the door.

If all else fails, use your shoulder against where the lock is to break the door open. Then you will have to repair the inside of the door frame.

Consult with Erwin Schrödinger. He knew a thing or two about cats. Or perhaps he didn't.

If you can tell what company made the doorknob you might be able to go to their website or call them and ask for some help. There has to ba a way since a child could lock him self in and need rescue.

Buy a can of SPAM.. The little key to open the SPAM can works perfectly as a key to an interior door. insert the key and slowly turn it untill you feel it go into the slot and turn it to unlock.. if its a push button lock just stick pretty much anything that will fit in the hole and push

have you tried using a butter knife? slide it in at the faceplate and try to push the latch bolt down and pull the door toward you. this is how i opened my neighbor's door for her. twice. she waked inside and pulled the door closed behind her as she came back out so i had to open it again. yes she is a natural blonde. but then again... so am i.

if that doesn't work then get a large pipe wrench and twist the doorknob until you break it off.

Grab a knife or fork and stick it in the door like by where the handle in and make sure to stick it in like the crack between the door and the wall and u just go to the lock and move it from the input thing but hopefully u have the right door to be able to do this

Break off the knob and replace it later. They are pretty cheap. Once you break it off, you can use a screwdriver to pry out the guts and get the door open. Just don't hit it so hard you damage the door. You maybe could even cut it off with a hacksaw.

Troll alert! How in heaven's name can a cat lock a door? Sorry, I don't believe this. Who would take the time to post this question if they really had a cat trapped in the bathroom?

At the base of the doorknob, the trim piece that covers the actual hole in the door that was drilled to accomadate the doorknob should be removeable, it may be a tiny little set screw on the side of that trim piece, you will need an allen wrench, or very small, think eyeglass screwdriver to remove the trim. once thats off you should be able to unscrew the doorknob completely.

Pry the trim away from the door jamb on the outside (near the doorknob) with a stiff "putty knife" and a screwdriver if needed. With a knife, move the latch out of the strike plate.

You don't have to break anything. Use your brain!

Change the mechanism so this doesn't happen again.

The cat knows that you put your hand on the knob to make the door open. So after it went into the bathroom behind the door and managed to close the door, it must have pushed the lock button in an effort to make the door open like it thinks that you do.
