Forget "some guy" get an electrician to check it out. Gender optional.

If they stop heating overnight it's a failure of wall switch, fuse at meter end or element(s).

In that order.

Storage heaters are supposed to work off the cheaper night rate electricity. They heat up overnight and slowly release their heat during the day. They are usually wired straight into the wall (not a pluggable and unpluggable socket) to ensure that nothing else can be run off the cheaper 'night rate' electricity but the storage heaters. It is quite possible they are now running off the normal rate (more expensive) electricity, which is why it is costing you so much.

The way we run our storage heaters is to have the input set to maximum and the output set to minimum. In this way we don't run out of heat before the heaters start recharging again the following night. Ours cannot be recharged during the day...though some are different and have a daytime over ride, which would then charge the heaters up but at the more expensive rate.

I hope all this makes some kind of sense.

Yes they do come on automatically as long as you have not turned them off and yes they do use a lot of electricity which is why they are intended for off peak use ie overnight on a cheaper tariff. If you have multiple of these and they have all 'stopped ' working contact your energy supplier and get them to check out the controls as they are responsible for them. It maybe a time switch or a radio switch that is not working.Failing this being the problem get a 'proper 'electrician in to check out the problem.

You will need to describe your "weird situation". Do you have electricity available? Do you have ventilation available? How big an area, cubic feet or meters will do fine.

And any other little details you'd care to disclose.

It helps to post the situation before someone takes the time to answer it.

So what is your situation? there are loads of engineers out there, you haven't said what the problem is.
