Question:
I am looking for a transistor for a project that they do not have at radioshack?

Hello! I am trying to find a J-FET Transistor which is similar to the MPF102. This transistor can be hooked up to an LED. When the antenna on the transistor detects static electricity, the LED will go dim. I am trying to find a similar transistor or maybe a transistor with the reverse effect, which will make the LED turn bright when static is present. I have looked up the MPF102 but they are not in stock at radioshack. The only way possible is by mail order but I need it right away for a project. So I am looking for something similar, something I can get at radioshack.

Thanks for your help!

You didn't say what city you lived in. Normally, there are suppliers who stock these electronic parts in most large cities. I would search in the yellow pages or yahoo local under electronic parts. Most of these electronic parts houses are open 8AM - 5 PM Monday - Friday and are usually not open on the weekends but they do stock a lot more parts than Radio Shack. If they don't have the specific part you need, they might be able to cross reference the part and suggest another compatible part for you.

Unfortunately Radio Shack sold out years ago to survive the new generation of kids who want the transistors already assembled into a cell phone. You'll have to look up electronic supply houses in your area or order it online.

Can you provide a schematic?
