Is Air Duct cleaning necessary for my condo?

A local company is offering to clean the air ducts of my forced-air system in my little condo. Is this a totally bogus thing, or is it worth the money? (about $400).

It really depends on age & condition of ducts. If they are dirty,dusty etc it just recirculates the dirt into your house when heat comes on.

Then absolutely get them cleaned, with forced air I think professionals are required. They've got the tools to get it done right.



Get a second estimate & or ask the local company offering service for references from their customers, how long they've been in the business & what kind of guarantee they offer.

I would explore other options.Have your system checked out by a contractor that doesn't provide duct cleaning so you don't get pressured into anything.Check around with co-workers,friends etc on good contractors in your area.

Another thing to add why have your ductwork cleaned if the ductwork isn't sealed and tight.The dirt just comes back.I can't tell you how many times I've been asked about duct cleaning when the indoor coil is plugged up.One other thing that comes to mind I've seen piles of torn up flex duct next to non hvac contractors that provide duct cleaning.Guess who has to pay for the new ductwork?Replacing the ductwork is alot more

expensive than the $400.00 they quoted you.

It could be legit, but get 2 more estimates and call their references. Ok so $400 isn't such a huge amount of money, but why spend it if it doesn't need it. Check with the BBB in your area for each of the contractors. Anyone worth his salt will be registered, licensed, insured, and have certificates of knowledge. A little homework can save a lot of housework.

I asked this comparable question to the guy who does the restoration paintings on my vital air equipment. He mentioned that it relies upon on the duct equipment frequently. in case your ducts are interior the ceiling, so the air falls down into the room, he mentioned doing the cleansing isn't probable mandatory. in case you have the ducts interior the floor, so the air rises up, then airborne dirt and dust and stuff can definitely collect, so cleansing them now and back could be sensible.

its actually quite dirty in the air ducts, from the builders and a cleaning is worth it....but it only needs to be done once....
