I need some help here

My A/C just went out yesterday and it's supposed to be 110°+ all week. Fan wasn't blowing outside. I could start it by spinning it manually. I took the panel off the unit and saw the capacitor was all puffed up so i'm guessing that's what's wrong.

So the part # is GE, Z97F9895
I don't know what half of this stuff means but here's what the label says:

5uf
45uf 370 VAC
+06 -06% 50/60Hz
Protected P968
S10000AFC 92-23Z258
DIELEKTROL VI
then a bunch of numbers and **** under that

I called around and nobody can seem to find a match for this part number but they have other capacitors. Could i use any 370 watt capacitor? Or do i have to have ALL the same specs? What specs absolutely NEED to match?

It's sunday so all the small appliance stores that would have it are closed. Only options are Sears and Home depot. I called both, neither found the part number but they both have other capacitors in stock.

Please help me out

Thanks in advance

It is a dual run capacitor...marked/indented on top you will see fan/herm. /com. Get a 45 x5.and get a decent one...and yes get a 440 volt if possible...370 will suffice.mark the colors where the wires

Came from and even though this is probably a newer capacitor/make sure power is off/get a rubber

Or electricians screwdriver and discharge your old one/probably incapable of holding residual charge

but be safe anyways.that's one of the most common size in use today..just go to any hvac parts house

And tell em Brett sent ya......good luck buddy ...be safe....

You are conspicuously silent on your general location.... Brett pretty much nailed it. Go to your local HVAC supply, walk in the door and when they ask you what you need just say "sell me a 45 by 5 by 370 or 440 dual run capacitor". -They will know exactly what you are talking about.

You should be able to find a Johnstone, Solar, or Morrison, HVAC supply. There are of course dozens of online HVAC parts & equipment sellers.

Sorry, Lowes & home Cheapo doesn't sell any of what you need.

When you get back to the unit, if you have already taken the wires off without marking them or taken a phone pic of them, the brown wire goes on the fan terminal, the yellow or red wire goes on the C terminal, and the small blue or purple wire goes on the HERM terminal.

The replacement caps sold at HD and most stores are universal units which can replace hundreds of others. Numbers your need to see is 370 VAC, 50/60Hz, and perhaps 45uf or better. Many will just state 370 & 50/60.

Personally I'd get the same cap from the local distributor of your HVAC brand since they don't cost much more than the universals.
