Question:
Ice maker problem- Frigidaire?

My ice maker stopped working. i checked all parts to make sure that ice wasn't jammed in the back etc.

So I call repairman. he comes out this morning, checks everything and tells me that it's in working order (although he has done NOTHING in the way of replacement parts, repairs etc). He just "checked" out all the components to the tune of $125-

He tells me to wait overnight and see if it makes ice. If it doesn't, I am to call him back - he will order a new icemaker ($150) + $30 service call for a re-visit + labor.

Does this sound right? How come he didn't come with all the needed items to make a repair if needed? I feel as if I was simply charged for diagnostics and he didn't even do that. Isnt that like bring in your broken car and being told - well, it looks ok but if its still broken tomorrow I will charge you again when I FIX IT?

Any knowledgable people or appliance repair persons want 10 points? Please HELP!! Thank you for reading

I have had the same problems with my frigidaire, look in the back at the bottom where the main water feed comes in, its hooked to a little plastic valve, and on the other side is the plastic line that goes to the ice maker in the back.

That valve un plugs,(cut off power first), go on line and order another, fairly cheap, its a pump that goes out from time to time.

Also, look inside freezer, unscrew little door in the back in look into the coils, if they are covered in ice, its another problem in the lower front which you will need an appliance repairman to fix, doesnt cost much, get the right person, check inside freezer first before doing anything, if no ice on the coils, order the part, that is your problem.

What to do if ice maker makes loud hum? I hold a hairdryer to melt ice buildup, it s OK for a while, then starts humming again usually when I m asleep. Can get very loud. I get out of bed, hold hair dryer on it til humming stops, clean up mess, go back to bed. This happens at least every other day.

You got raped!!(if icemaker not in door) A new ice-maker kit for a Frigidaire is only $59 at Lowes(bought one last week) It takes 2 min. to change out(all you do is unscrew 2 1/4"hex head screws and unplug to change). You probably don't need to change the solenoid(but there is one in the kit) but even with that your talking 5 min.(including cleaning the coils) DO NOT CALL HIM BACK!!!.Why didn't you get your hubby or SO to do it?If in the door check with Lowes I just don't know how much they are.I am sure it is a simple change out.(Hey get your neighbor or BF then to do it :)

Sounds about right. That why I use ice trays instead of replacing my ice maker for a 3rd time.........

It is possible that Satan has possessed your ice maker. This is because Satan does not allow ice for any reason. If your ice maker suddenly fails, you could be going to hell soon.

No one wants ten points.

Are you seeking serious answers? You must understand that every service person charges you to walk in your door. A repair person can't come with every thing he might need since there are so many models and types.

Make sure your water supply isn't stopped up. In the meantime, invest in a few cheap ice cubes trays. They always work.

My guess is he came and looked at it and the Arm was in the up position. He lowered it and it went into a cycle and filled the mold.

He has to charge you a trip fee for coming out, he gets a paycheck, the truck has to have gas insurance tires, he has license and insurance on his business and an education. Did you check to see if the arm was in the up position before calling him?
