how do I get rid of algae in my swimming pool?

I was gone for the weekend and when I came back I had green algae on the bottom of the pool. I tried a shock treatment and used some algicide, but nothing has worked. I can't drain the pool because we are on a water restiction right now due to drought. the pool is not very big, we bought it at wal-mart. it's one that you air up the top ring and the water make it rise. does anyone know what i should do?

This may sound silly but where I live there was an algae problem in the reservior. Someone sugestred floating bales of straw in it and passing the other day I noticed the straw is still in position, some twenty years later on. You could try a handful of straw/hay well bound together so it could be lifted out easily. It will cost you nothing to try... Give it a go and good luck. I used to have a larger pool (18 foot round),. I used a couple of gallons of household bleach. Since your pool is small, I would use about 2 cups of bleach. You won't be able to use the pool for a few days, but it should clear it up. Invest in a chemical pool water checking kit. It should be available at Wal-Mart. Keep an eye on the chlorine level. It will let you know when the chlorine water level is ok to swim in. GOOD LUCK!

Brush and shock. But first make sure the water is in balance... pH 7.4 and Alkalinity around 80 - 100 (you should have a test kit). After shocking run the filter overnight and next day vacuum and then clean the filter. Never allow chlorine level to get too low, keep water in balance and keep the filter clean.

Shocking it will kill the algae but only a filter will get rid of the dead algae. The algaecide will only prevent new growth, not get rid of current growth. Had a pool since I was a kid and recovered many a green pool in my life. Lots and lots of chlorine (that's what shock is) and filter (assuming you have a filter). Once you have filtered the dead algea out, apply an algaecide to prevent new growth.

take a sample to your pool store ( of the water) not the pool and is the water even being filtered, if not good luck

2 gallons of bleach. just pour it right in. (dont get in for a couple of hours though. Make sure the little toy skimmer/filter thing is clean too.

you'll have to keep shocking it until it kills the algae. Once it is dead (it will turn brown and look like sand), brush it into one area if you can and vacuum it out.
