We currently have two different toys in our home that seem to be broken from leaky AA batteries. One is a toy dinosaur that works on remote. The previous owner must have had batteries in the dinosaur that ended up leaking and causing some sort of corrosion. The other is a toy that worked not too long ago, but when I opened up the battery compartment after our move, I noticed one leaky battery (cheap!!!) - the toy is no long working. Any hints to get these toys working would be greatly appreciated. If there is no hope and they are scrap, so be it - at least I tried.

to clean off any acid, wash the contacts and the battery compartment with either a paste of baking soda and water, mixed to about the consistency of french's mustard, then you can rinse/wash off with club soda. let it sit for a while if the corrosion has left deposits on the metal contacts, then try to remove the deposits with say, a butter knife, then lightly sand with some sandpaper. rinse everything again with club soda and let dry for a day or so before you install the new batteries. besides the butter knife, an old tooth brush, emery board or nail file, and q-tips might be handy for getting in there.

i've had to fix a few toys, tv remotes, clocks, and flashlights this way. good luck, car dude.

try to use a little sand paper to clean off the clips that hold the batteries if the leak was not to bad just remember to wash your hands if you get any of the leakage on your fingers

Tyler is one hundred% incorrect. based on your submit, you already understand the respond by applying asserting "landlord did not require renters insurance". the owner isn't in charge. Had you performed the in charge factor and paid for renters insurance, you've a sparkling television.
