1. Do NOT use gasoline. It is a fire hazard and could even cause an explosion.

2. I've used Zippo lighters for over 40 years, and any brand liquid lighter fluid will work in a Zippo.

3. Do NOT use acetone as it has the same flash point/explosion hazard as gasoline.

4. Do NOT use "stuff like that." Same hazards.

Only IF you cannot find any store-bought, prepackaged liquid lighter fluid, then you could use petroleum NAPHTHA. If you carefully read the label/contents information on a can of Zippo fluid you will find that the only ingredient in Zippo fuel is Naphtha.

I personally wouldn't use anything but a lighter fluid. The vapors from gasoline, acetone and other fluids are too dangerous to expose to open flame. A nice inexpensive source of lighter fluid is charcoal lighter fluid. Mineral spirits will also work. Zippo, Ronson and other brands of lighter fluids are traditionally a bit more highly refined than charcoal lighter to reduce odors. Low odor mineral spirits are pretty close to Zippo type fluids.

Don't use gas or acetone. If it leaks out of the lighter and gets on your skin it will cause a burn like wound. Just go buy some lighter fluid.

NOT RECOMMENDED!!!! I have known people to use some of the hotter paint thinners, like M E K, or Acetone, Lacker thinner. All are bad for your lungs, smoke more than regular lighter fluid, and have other side affects on your body. As the fluid is sold across the counter in so many, many places, I wander that you don't have easy access to it?

I know that gas works but smells awful,if you can find some strong alcohol that will work, and fuel for a Colman lantern will work.
