Question:
Above ground pool questions for setup?

Instead of draining all the water & taking it down, I left it up with about a foot of water in it. The crappy pool cover that came with it just wouldn't stay on, so we forgot about it. The water is terribly dirty, should I drain all the way or refill & clean it. I've invested this year in a higher performance sand filter & a chlorine/algaecide generator so cleaning shouldn't be a problem, i just wonder if there's something i'm overlooking. Also, where can I get a decent cover, because when I put that cheap one on the wind would immediately catch under it (no matter how tight) and blow it right off.

ether way is fine. remove the big stuff with hand skimmer then back flush twice the first day then once each day till clean.

You should only drain the water to just under the skimmer and inlet when winterizing. Every pool cover I have had, no matter the cost, only lasted two years before strong winds caused a rip. It happened this winter. You could add some gallon plastic water, or milk bottles hung over the side and attached to the cover with some thin rope to help keep it in place.

I don't drain it as much as you and will just add a few gallons of shock to make the water clear, then vacuum the debris. Trying to pump out all the water would be easy, whether or not all the muck and debris goes with it is another story , I guess you could do it if you kept it stirred up enough so the dirt doesn't settle to the bottom.

I don't know where to get a cover, but I would say to drain it. If you try to filter it, you could potentially harm the brand new filter.

good luck finding a cover. i would drain the pool and start over. it would be easier on the filter system

Draining it would be ideal, but you could just fill and filter it, making sure you backwash the filter good enough afterwards
