My electric dog fence alarm beeps like it has a break in the line somewhere, but only when it gets cold. I had a tech. from Dogwatch, (retailer), come out and he said that the line had a bad patch of wire and replaced it. That seemed to work at the time but the problem's back. The problem seems to occur in colder weather. The first time it happened it was in the teens, it was repaired while it was warm (in the thirties) then the problem reappeared when the temp.droped back in the teens about three weeks later
The company wants eighty dollars to come out and find the break in the line that they said was not there in the first visit. The plug in module is warranted for life. How do I test these things myself?

I think before you invest in an electric fence you should either build or buy a dog run.Much better solution to your problem.Electric fences can be turned off but that would mean the dog would still be able to get out when kids are around. They also are not cheap. You have to have a power source out of the weather to mount the box unit on a wall . I would go to a feed store and buy an outdoor dog run made of cyclone fencing. The price would be about the same as the power equipment for the electric fence. It would give your dog the freedom to move around.Make sure you put it where there is some shade or get a tarp for the top for sun and rain.

The ground expands and contracts during hot and cold weather so when the weather gets colder it pulls at the wire which is why sometimes people find that they get wire breaks during these times. More often than not the wire was broken earlier in the year by a landscaper and they tried to patch it without telling the home owner so as not to have to pay to have it fixed the right way by a professional. Or it was nicked earlier in the year and the exposed copper has corroded. When the ground starts to freeze it will pull the wire apart the rest of the way.

I doubt that the company you hired to come out and fix the broken wire is trying to pull a fast one over on you. When your equipment reads that there is a continuous loop and they checked to see if your dogs receiver was working properly before they left how do you think they have failed you?

Your best bet is to have them back out so they can fix this problem properly and professionally. By trying to fix the problem yourself when you don't have the necessary tools or experience to do so can just make this a never ending process.

Call your DogWatch dealer and explain everything. I am sure they will be very happy to get this resolved.

Mine does the same thing and there is no break. As soon as I move the box away from the window and it warms up the beeping stops. I have double checked by taking the dogs collar in hand and walked towards the line to double check. Has always given the signal. Before you call double check this way.
