I replaced the gas pipes in my house. Then I hooked up my compressor to leak/pressure check the pipes. However, the air left through the gas meter. I assumed there was a valve that stopped air from entering when the meter was shut off. It made some funny noises when the air went in also. Do I need to call the gas company?

I think you need to talk to the gass company. It is cheaper to be fined than to blow your house down I don't deal with gas but the pressure is very low like 1/4 lb .

Yep, you did damage it. Gas only run through the lines at about a 1/2 psi or 3-4"wc. If you pressured the lines too high then you run a high risk of damaging the meter. I would call the gas company to come replace it. You will probably get charged unless you play stupid and tell them you dont know what happened.

It probably wouldn't hurt to call them and see what they say.. A gas meter not only measures the amount of gas you use it also regulates the pressure so if you screwed it up it could possibly send way too much pressure into the house.
