I have the right sized torx bit but the knob in the center prevents me from using it. I have had no luck using a flathead, is there any way to grind down the knob somehow or what am I supposed to do?

That knob calls for a whole different wrench bit. They come in many "security" configurations. You can buy a whole set. This model is secure against people who have a Torx wrench. Simple. Next the crooks will have to carry complete sets.

You seem to have Torx bits/wrenches, they are different than Torx Security bits, a set is just a few bucks. https://amzn.to/2nl8zaF

Buy the security bit, not expensive. A long time ago I was able to drill into a torx bit myself, wasn't able to mimic it when I tried recently though, i have removed the post in the past also, so there are ways to go about it. If you are steady and can see well enough.

You can get those security Torx bits at Harbor Freight, Tractor Supply, sometimes even Big Lots. They're everywhere.

Go to ANY place the sells tools and spent $15 for a set of bits designed for the purpose. If you can't afford that, you don't need to be messing with the screws.

Go and buy the correct bit at almost any hardware or tool store. They're about a buck.

Those screws came with the bit. Grind the head off.

The best way is to get a security bit set for removing screws like that. You can get a set very cheaply at a store like Harbor Freight.

Aside from that, if you have a tool that's small enough to fit into the screw head at all, maybe you can pry against that center knob. If you can bend it back and forth a couple times it should snap out, allowing you to use a standard torx driver.

You can buy a set of security bits at many tool stores, Post tool has them, so does harbor freight.

About a half dozen sizes of torx in the lot.

The "knob in the center" is more like a pin in the center, designed to make it very hard for a vandal to remove the screw. Go to the hardware store and buy a Torx socket set that has the vandal proof screw style as this has a hole in the center so the pin fits in and you can turn the screws.

Everybody who sells TORX bits, sells TORX security bits.

I'm wondering what you are trying to access or disassemble?

You can get them pretty cheap, but if you can't or need to loosen it in a hurry, then just tap it off with a fine chisel or screwdriver. You can grind them out with a drill bit, but you run the risk of damaging the whole head. Depends how accessible it is.
