Reviews are simply personal opinions, nothing more. Some bad reviews are simply because the user doesn't know how to operate the equipment or they may have purchased a unit that is too small for the intended purpose. You're not going to cool a 1,000 sq ft home with an 8,000 BTU AC. You're not even going to cool a 400 sq ft room in the AZ desert with a unit that small.

Yes expectations. If the room requires 12000 btu to keep it cool in this heat, then an 8000 btu unit will not be big enough. But most people do not know how to determine the room requirements so they have unrealistic expectations and get angry for the product not meeting their expectations.

If I buy a gallon of gas and expect my car to go 100 miles but don't know that my car only gets 25 mpg then is it the car or gas fault? Or is it the unrealistic expectation.

I think it is often about expectations. Particularly an 8000 watt btu is not going to have great capacity, says it's only good for a 14x14 room, can easily fail to meet the need.

Personally I'm an old guy, Lucky-Goldstar used to always be a Kmart /bottom shelf brand. My expectations of a Lucky-Goldstar A/C unit would be low, so I likely would not write a bad review.

Personally I would go larger, this RCA http://amzn.to/2aU2hML , prices I found similar, but 1.5x times capacity. It will use more power when running, but will run less to accomplish the same cooling. To me it would all be about capacity.

http://amzn.to/2aRT1my would put a little less demand on your electrical circuits, but will still produce more cooling than the 8000 btu.

Since you already bought, use it according to instructions, and be happy.
