How much will it cost to relocate a dryer (220v) outlet?

I'm planning to move my washer & dryer upstairs from the basement (we have a new baby, so we have LOTS of additional laundry now. The trip up and down very steep old carpeted steps is hard and a bit scary-I've almost fallen carrying laundry multiple times) to a hall closet. I will need to relocate the 22v receptacle as well as a three prong receptacle for the washer. How much might this cost me ?

Depends on how accessible the new location is. Could be as little as $75-100, could be as much as $400-500. Call a local electrician and have him come out and assess the situation. You will get an accurate price, which you won't be able to get here. While you're at it, you also need to think about plumbing and a vent for the dryer. Good luck.

Remind me to never call KTB for any electrical work.

The 240v outlet is easy (Provided your basement isn't finished). As this can be mounted on the floor. It's called a surface mount dryer receptacle. It cost about $10.00. Twenty five feet or so of #10/3 Romex is right around $30.00. If I were to charge you standard rates here in the Ann Arbor Michigan area. Just the dryer alone would cost $185.00. $20 for the receptacle, $40.00 for the wire, and $125.00 for the one hour of labor it would take to install. Labor rates vary, but here its around $85.00 w/ a $40.00 truck fee for the first hour.

The 120v outlet technically can also be surface mounted too. But looks better fished into the wall. If you fish it into the wall, you may run into snags. An experienced electrician would easily conquer this task for another $100.00/125.00.

Total= right around $300.00.

It should be a time and material job. Most reputable contractors charge $60-$100 an hour. Should take 1-3 hours. Markup is generally 15% for material. The wire should be $100-$150. Receptable $10-$20.

Moving the power outlets could be done for $150-$300. However, if you do not already have a drain in place for the washer upstairs, be prepared to get out your checkbook. Adding a drain is not cheap. Best of luck!

As an Electrician, and I know this will be less than a popular answer, but at least truthful, In the US you are likely looking at $750-$1,000 if run from your box for approximately 40' feet or less. More if there are issues (corners, blocks and etc.). Less if it is a straight run (but not much less). Insurance simply kills us. Do it right, do it once, and you'll have no worries.

If your going directly above the outlet that you have now, it can be real simple and probably be able to do yourself with a class from Home Depot. If you are moving across your floor plan, you will need a contractor and then it gets to be in the 1k to 3k range, including addition to your fuse box.
