Skylights on the roof fall under the roofer category. They will install a new one put with ice & water shield around the skylights, and apply a skylight kit metal flashing around it so it doesn't leak.. If you know someone with roofing knowledge I would ask them first to take a look at it because they may save you some money, because if a contractor comes out depending on the window size and materials, time it will take install a new skylight may run you in ballpark of $1000 or more.

It depends on where you live. I run a Window company in Detroit and Chicago and the prices are 30-50% different Email me and i will give you some advice depending on where you live teach8577@yahoo.com
PS iturner has no clue what she is talking about. It cannot be fixed and it will be tough to get anyone out for 1 skylight. Dont waste the time of 3-5 companys we dont charge by the hour

Both a contractor and window replacement company can do the job. Call 3-5 different people, get them out to your house and give you estimates. Can it be repaired or do you need to replace it ? The cost of the job will depend on the answer to that question plus the company's hourly rates and the cost of a new skylight, if needed.

I agree with mayma..You need a roofer..they have to properly tear shingles/metal/shakes away from the old skylight..replace it..which simply takes a few screws and good stainless steel screws to install the new skylight, and then needs to be properly flashed after that then new shingles(whatever you may have for your roofing) in the area of the skylight..Alot of carp[enters can do this job if they have knowledge of the proper way to install the necessary flashing..but alot do not get into this part of construction and stay strictly to carpentry...A roofer is your best bet for proper instilation..DO NOT..hire unlicensed people for this job ..it may not save you the any money at all hiring someone unlicensed for a cheaper price..Skylights are notorious for leaking if not installed TOTALY corect, so A licensed roofer will save you alot of misery..If the skylight leaks and does any further damage to your ceilings/walls.carpeting/furniture etcetera..then thier insurance (the roof contractor) will have to honor thier warranty..They should give at least a 1 year WRITTEN WARRANTY with this job..Check and call thier insurance company and make sure it is current and not expired...Do not do ANY VERBAL warranties or contracts nor let them begin work without it written and signed on paper first..beware I have seen many give a written warranty and state..we can sign this later..get it signed and check out the insurance and license BEFORE construction starts
