So we have this crazy old oven from like 1955 and my roommate and I are looking for anyone who knows where we could fine this elusive mechanism and someone to fix it. The said mechanism being a gas valve. We live in the Boston area and would like to be baking soon.

The problem is this gas oven is so old that parts are no longer made for it or the original maker has closed and parts no longer stocked. You could try and locate an identical model on e bay and buy it for spares if you can find a trained and qualified independant gas servicing technician to take it on to fit the parts and warranty it's safety in use.

you haven't been clear about who owns the oven. does it belong to you and you're trying to get the landlord to allow you to install it? i'm sure his main reason for not wanting it in there would be fear of it being a fire hazard.

it's time to get a professional involved. you really don't want to blow up or burn up the place. start by calling plumbers and like someone else said, find the make and model number first so you have some information for them to go on.

Old stoves from the fifty's have a pilot safety consist of a safety valve inline with a pilot light. You can buy a pilot safety valve off ebay. Measure the pipe size and go by that. If it is robertshaw safety valve the electromagnet head can be replaced with a kit.

Have you called people who service gas appliances? I'd open the yellow pages and start calling. Or your landlord should. It really isn't a tenant's responsibility to deal with it. If your landlord thinks it can't be fixed, why isn't he installing a new stove?

You'd probably want to identify the model before you start looking.
