The 'hidden' hinge on most cabinets is often referred to as a "Blum hinge" (pronounced 'bloom'), because that manufacturer made popular a machine for boring those cup holes for the hinges, and manufactures the hinges themselves.

These hinges can usually be adjusted a small amount, to help square up doors, etc.

The 'drill bit' most often used for these types of hinges is a 35, or 40 mm forstner bit, in either the boring machine made for these hinges, or in a drill press, though you can get a jig to do it by hand. (Don't forget, you don't want to drill all the way through, heheh)

The problem you will have is the void left by the original hinge placement... you may actually want to consider switching to a different hinge altogether.

I would seriously recommend that you talk to a cabinet installer, or small cabinet shop. Either of those would already own the necessary tools, and if necessary, have the ability to make a new piece of trim, or even a new door, to match your existing cabinetry, if relocating the hinge is a problem.

Are you sure you don't want to wait until tomorrow just to see if you're going to do any more punching?? *wink* But if you are sure the rage has passed, you can do two things. One...... keep punching (thus relieving more rage) and then take a saw and even out a nice opening in the cabinet which you can now fill with glass so that you now have a see through cabinet. ORRRR you could fix it by getting some stiff particle board and then apply lots of wood puddy around the whole...... let it dry....... sand it..... stain it..... and voila! You are fixed. Here's hoping no more punching will be necessary. ;)

Hi

You would need a Forstner bit for drilling this job that will create a flat bottom hole, I use a cordless power drill with care.My drills bits were these below.

If you want to start a woodworking project, you need all the necessary information, including schematics, blueprints, materials lists, dimensions etc. That is where Teds Woodworking comes in. The plans are clearly drawn and there're step-by-step explainations of how the plan should be done and put together. Go here https://tr.im/qRVAi

There are several other sites whose collection of plans have the dimensions totally wrong without any indication of parts lists, material lists or the tools needed. If you're one of those people who have bought plans like this in the past, Teds Woodworking will change your perception.

RE:

HOW DO WE CUT/DRILL ROUND HOLES IN KITCHEN CUPBOARD DOORS FOR HINGES TO FIT IN?

WE ARE CHANGING OUR KITCHEN CUPBOARD DOORS. THE DOOR TO FIT OVER THE WASHING MACHINE DOES NOT LINE UP CORRECTLY. WE CANNOT MOVE THE HINGES ON THE WASHING MACHINE SO NEED TO MOVE THEM ON THE DOOR. THIS INVOLVES CREATING TWO NEW HOLES FOR THE HINGES TO FIT IN. WE ARE UNSURE WHICH TOOL WE NEED FOR...

I don't think you can rent a set of Multi spur bits, any way you will need one, they are design to be used in a drill press but they can also be used with a regular drill for small ( non-repetitive) job. This tool will allow you to copy the diameter and the dept of your existing hole. Also there are other types of wood drill that will also do the job as well, but is very hard to imagine your problem unless you can be more specific. Take them to a local cabinetmaker and get him to do it for you, it should only cost a few dollars cheeper than buying something you will not use again. If his is nice enough he prob wont charge you

You are looking for a forstner bit. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Drill_bit#Forstner_bit You can buy them individually or in sets. Since they are a specialty tool they are more expensive than regular drill bits. If this is the only project you will need it for I'd buy only the one you need. Practice on a piece of scrap or cheap wood before you drill the cabinet.

Along with stone, mud and animal parts, wood was one of the first materials worked by early humans. Microwear analysis of the Mousterian stone tools used by the Neanderthals show that many were used to work wood. The development of civilization was closely tied to the development of increasingly greater degrees of skill in working these materials.

Mark the position where the new holes have to go for the hinges. Then using a small drill just drill it into the wood a little way.Do that to all the holes need, line up the door and screw the screws home........good luck.

There is a cutter just for this job. I believe there are two sizes so measure the hinge diameter. I think Screwfix sell them, or any good tool shop should.

You need a router and quite a bit of practice.
