I have a rebellious brother who lately has been leaving the bedroom window cracked to get in and out of the house. We close it anytime we realize it's open but there's not really any way to keep track of it entirely. My mom wants to get something to lock the windows or something to where he can't climb out anymore.
She doesn't like burglary bars because she thinks they're ugly. Is there anything else we can do? He's 18, so it's not like we can "child proof" it with a simple latch or something.

Get a window lock. U can just take it on and off the window and he would never know

if the windows raise up and down (as opposed to crank out casement). look along the edges of the track the window rises in. inside the track there is usually a couple of screws that enable the window to raise and lower easily. loosen the screws slightly(which will make the window close to impossible to raise.( the reason this happened all of a sudden is because the house is older now and weather changes cause the wood to swell.) then you don't have to show an ugly burglary bar.

You can't legally lock the window or obstruct exiting the window in any manner. You may be doing it for his own good (had a brother who was like that). However, it is a fire hazard because a bedroom must have window egress in event of fire. God forbid something happens, you could get HUGE fines, or in worse case, be in for manslaughter charges. He could actually, depending on his mood, call cops or fire department and get your mother in trouble, and/or use it for blackmail to get his way.

My parents made him switch rooms with my other brother who lived on second floor. If you don't have second floor, then your mom just needs to lay down the law: There are rules and if he doesn't follow them, he has to live elsewhere. Good thing about making them be independent is they have less money to get in trouble with.

wait for him to leave then put a nail so it wont slide up, i caulked around my windows and there dang near impossible to open of course you cant really undo it easily, and he will probaly just start to use the door

id try discipline not let that fc0cker leave board the door up just until he learns he doesnt have the right to go anywhere

or just lock his *** out of his room or sell everything he owns
