we have a septic tank. I need to know if it is okay to use bleach products like bleach in the washing machine, dish soap with bleach, etc.. which goes through the septic tank, or will it clog up the septic after time, taking out the good bacteria? Thanks so much.

Normal amounts of household cleaners are expected to be used and your septic system can tolerate them. Although bleach and other cleaners will kill beneficial bacteria, poop and urine will provide plenty more bacteria that your system needs to function.

The worst thing to put in your septic system is grease. It can cause your leaching field to fail and the repair is very expensive. I scrape all cooking grease into a container and dispose of it in the trash.

Rid-X recommends using their product every month, I use it every 2 months and my septic tank is good. Have the tank pumped regularly.

Used as directed, regular bleach is fine for a home with a septic tank and any remaining sodium hypochlorite not broken down in the washing machine WILL be broken down in your pipes BEFORE it reaches your septic tank. Regrettably, there are way too many answers in this thread that are just wrong. Period. And RidX is a waste of your money. Human waste has all the bacteria is needs to break down waste. You don't need additional bacteria and that includes adding waste too. So goes the Web.

It depends on the product you're using. Some bleach, as the first answerer said, is an disinfectant and will kill bacteria in your septic tank as readily as on your counter top. There is another type of bleach, also readily available, that contains a different chemical, sodium hypochlorite, and its safe for use in septic systems because it turns to plain salt water after use. You don't have to remember the names of the chemicals, just look on the label for the words "safe for septic systems".

Bleach will kill any active bacteria in the septic tank. Many people who are aware of this will run waste water from washing machines into a separate smaller filter bed vs. septic.

If you are unable to route washer to separate tank or filter bed I suggest using Rid-x periodically to restore the active bacteria in your septic tank that helps breakdown the waste.

I wouldnt, the less of that type of thing in your system, the better it will work!!
