I have an Allister ARD IIA garage door opener (about 15 years old) and one of two remotes went out. It uses a Craftsman remote, which I ordered (the exact same part number as the old remote). The question now is, how do I program the remote to open the garage door? The instructions with the remote say to press the orange "smart" button but this garage door opener doesn't have a button anywhere on it. There must be someway to program the remote as I have one Craftsman remote that works. Can anyone help with this or have one of these garage door openers?

Open the back of both remotes the old and new you should see about 9 little switches match the new with the old that should work If the new remote don't have switches then craftsman sent you the wrong remote Hope this helps Good luck

Is the Craftsman receiver plugged into a wall outlet? (or ceiling) If so the programming button is inside that case. If so be careful to arrange the two white wires going to the opener back into their little channels. With your particular opener I would put a surge suppressor on the end of the opener plug. And some of these openers (motor) would go dead once in awhile. If it does unplug the motor for about 15 minutes before doing anything else. Most will reset themselves and sometimes the suppressor will actually prevent this trouble. Yours is a good heavy duty unit.

If the Genie didn't come with instructions go on line to their site.
