From your pictures it looks like the evaporator coil is on the return side of your air handler the filter should be inserted on the bottom of that coil and before inserting the filter you need to take a good look at the underside of the coil s that is where you will have most of the debris on it . Clean the coil and insert a filter and make sure you have the door mounted other wise the A/C will freeze as you will not be pulling any air thorough the coil if the door is not in place .After you do all of this and the coil freezes still then you most likely have a leak assuming that the blower is working .

From the pictures, I believe this is a down flow system. Most units blow air across the evap coil, not suck air across it. The reason for this is moisture from the coil would suck into the fan and make a mess. Also, electric motors and moisture do not mix.

The filter may be above the unit, or on the inside of the heater section. If you can't find it, have a technician show you.

The most common cause of freezing coils is air restrictions. A dirty filter, a dirty coil, blocked returned air openings/ducts, a dirty blower wheel, or a blower motor going out. A wrong charge of freon can cause this, also.

If you just had some repairs, the technician should have checked the freon and how clean the unit was. If there were other problems, he should have suggested other work.

Good luck! E-mail me if you have any questions.

before you go getting it recharged clean the dirt out of the coils. They are filthy and will block heat transfer. The filter should be on the suction side of the fan. With the fan running see where the air is getting sucked in. That is the filter side.. Without a filter the dust builds up in the coils. This mixes with water condensing out of the air and makes a real mess. The bottom line is there is minimal heat transfer and the coils freeze.

That's your Air Conditioner's Heat Exchanger. The reason that it is freezing up is because you have no freon in the system. You most likely have a small leak. Just having it recharged with freon won't solve the problem. It may work for a day or two but eventually the freon will leak out and your unit will freeze up again. You need to have a professional HVAC technician locate and repair the leak first.

That is the heat extractor (basically a cooling radiator) that is what it does. It takes the heat out of the air as the fluid goes thru the coils.

Best to get an air conditioning guy over, you may have a leak in your system and it needs to be recharged.

the filter thing is called a-coil.that is what the freon goes through air blows across it and out your vents to cool your house.try shutting off your a/c for a few hours for it to thaw then try it.

Thats the air handler unit - im not sure where the filter mounts , but the reason it freezes up is the lack of refridgerant , not the missing air filter.
