bully wooly is right on track. cross connections occur when a fresh water line is attached to a sewer drain or vent. can occur at certain fixtures when an air gap or vacuum breaker is not present. mixing hot and cold is common and happens in most faucets , wall valves and even washing machines. therefore not a problem.

A cross connection is present any time there is the possability of sewage or other non-potable water getting into your drinking water. Check with your plumber.
